1948 - 1960 Completed his primary, middle, and high school studies in Basra; since his childhood, he showed a fondness for drawing.
1962 - 1966 He studied and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Baghdad and obtained a Diploma in Fine Arts.
1964 Held his first solo exhibition in the Mubarakiya Gallery, Kuwait, and participated in a graphic exhibition by four artists at Aya Gallery, Baghdad, and a joint exhibition with the artist Salim Al-Dabbagh in Aya Gallery, Baghdad, while he was still a student at the Academy of Fine Arts.
1965 Co-founded the ‘Innovators Group’ with other artists such as Salim Al-Dabbagh, Saleh al-Jumaie, Talib Mekki, Nidaa Kadim, Faik Hussain, and Taher Jamil (Indonesian Photographer).
1966 Participated in the second exhibition of the Innovators Group, Baghdad, and returned to Basra, remaining there until the beginning of the seventies.
1968 Joined the ‘Towards a New Vision’ group and participated in its exhibitions.

1976 Held a solo exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad. In the same year, he obtained a scholarship to complete his studies in Egypt. Also, he participated in the second Arab Biennial in Casablanca, Morocco, the Iraqi Modern Art Exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Paris, France, and the third April Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1978 Participated in the Arab Art Exhibition in the Iraqi Cultural Centre, London.

1980 He obtained a Master’s degree in Graphic Design from Helwan University in Greater Cairo, Egypt. He returned to Baghdad and started his teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts - University of Baghdad.

1944 وُلد الفنان علي طالب في محافظة البصرة في العراق. 1948-1960 أكمل دراسته المدرسية للابتدائية والمتوسطة والثانوية في البصرة، وأظهر منذ طفولته ولعاً بالرسم. 1962-1966 درس وتخرج من اكاديمية الفنون الجميلة في بغداد وحاز على دبلوم الفنون التشكيلية.
1964 أقام أول معرض شخصي له في كاليري المباركية في الكويت، واشترك في معرض للكرافيك لأربع فنانين في كاليري ايا في بغداد، ومعرض مع الفنان سالم الدباغ في كاليري ايا في بغداد وكان لا يزال طالباً في أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة.
1965 أسّس "جماعة المجددين" مع فنانين آخرين مثل سالم الدباغ وصالح الجميعي وطالب مكي ونداء كاظم وفائق حسين وطاهر جميل (فوتوغراف – أندنوسي).
1966 اشترك في معرض "جماعة المجددين" الثاني في بغداد، وعاد الى البصرة وبقي فيها لغاية بداية السبعينات.
1968 انضمّ الى جماعة "نحو الرؤيا الجديدة" وشارك في معارضها.
l969 أسس "جماعة الظل" في البصرة مع الفنان شاكر حمد وشارك في معارضها.
1970 اشترك في معرض "جماعة الظل" الثاني في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث في بغداد. وبدأ التدريس في اكاديمية الفنون الجميلة في بغداد منذ بداية السبعينات.
1971 بدأ التدريس في التلفزيون التربوي ومعهد الفنون الجميله في بغداد منذ بداية السبعينات واشترك في معرض الفن العراقي المعاصر بالتعاون مع جمعية الفنانين العراقيين في الكويت.

2022 أقام معرض استعادي في المتحف الوطني الأردني للفنون الجميلة في عمّان. متزوج ولديه ثلاثة أولاد. يسكن ويعمل متفرغاً للفن في بين مدينة لاهاي، هولندا وعمّان، الأردن. عضو في اللجنة الوطنية العراقية للفنون التشكيلية. عضو جمعية الفنانين التشكيليين العراقيين.
