1935 Born in Al-Wardia neighborhood, in the city of Hilla, Iraq.
1941 Began to paint at the age of six, of what he saw on his trips with his father to the countryside and agricultural fields; his teachers encouraged him to draw more to develop his talent.
1952 At seventeen years old, he traveled to Beirut, heading to Italy, to begin his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, joining his friends, artists Kalid Al-Rahhal and Faraj Abbo, and then Mohammad Ghani Hikmat.
1955 Won the Italian Landscape as Seen by Foreign Artists Award in Italy.
1956 Participated in an exhibition with sculptors Kalid Al-Rahhal and Mohammad Ghani Hikmat in Italy.
1957 Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and obtained a master's degree before returning to Baghdad.
1957-1968 Member of the Impressionists Group.
1958 Participated in the Painting and Sculpture Exhibition in Al-Mansour Club, in which he displayed 2 works. Also, he participated in the Revolution Exhibition at the Hall of the Republic Sports Club, in which he displayed 2 works.
1959 Won the Italy Prize for Arts.
1965 Participated in the Itinerant Iraqi Art Exhibition in Europe with artist Hafidh Al-Droubi.
1966 Participated in the 6th Exhibition of Iraqi Impressionists, Baghdad.
1968 Participated in the Battle Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad, and the 8th Exhibition of Iraqi Impressionists at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1971 Participated in the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition in cooperation with the Iraqi Fine Artists Association in Kuwait.
1972 Participated in the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1973 Participated in the 15th Exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association in Baghdad and participated in the Retrospective Exhibition of Iraqi Art at the same hall.
1974 Participated in the Cultural Festival of Al-Thawra Newspaper, Baghdad, and participated in the 1st April Art Exhibition at the Academy of Arts Hall.
1975 Participated in the 2nd April Art Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1976 Participated in the 3rd April Art Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad. That same year, he became a professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Baghdad. After that, he became the head of the Art Education Department and the Fine Arts Department in the same academy and the President of the National Committee for Fine Arts of the International Association of Fine Arts. He has authored numerous books and curricula for teaching the fine arts.
1977 Participated in the 4th April Art Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad
1979 Organized the Joint Iraqi-Moroccan Exhibition in Casablanca and Rabat, Morocco.
1980 Participated in the 7th April Art Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1981 Held a solo exhibition at Al-Riwaq Hall in Baghdad.
1982 Participated in the Academy of Fine Arts exhibition with artists Nimat Mahmoud Hikmat and Sheniyar Abdullah in Berlin, Germany and participated in the 2nd Al-Wasiti Festival in Baghdad.
1986 Participated in the 1st Biennial in Baghdad.
1987 Participated in the Iraqi Art Exhibition in Bologna, Italy.
1988 Participated in the Sketches and Designs Exhibition at the Hall of Culture and Arts Palace.
1990 Won the Distinguished Designer Award for the play ‘Oedipus, The King’ at the Iraqi Theater Center.
1991 Participated in the Contemporary Iraqi Artist Exhibition held by the International Relief Agency in London, UK.
1992 Held a traveling solo exhibition in five cities in Italy.
1994 Held solo exhibitions at Ain Hall in Baghdad and Amman and Hiwar Hall in Baghdad.
1998 Participated in an exhibition of ink and watercolor works at Hiwar Hall in Baghdad.
1999 Held a solo exhibition at the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi, UAE and another solo exhibition at the Hammurabi Art Gallery in Amman, Jordan.
2002 Founded and headed the Italian Language Department at the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad. He was awarded the University of Baghdad Medal as the 1st professor at the college.
2005 Awarded the Knight Medal from the Italian Republic.
2006 The book “Stylistic Development in the Drawings of the Artist Saad al-Tai” was published as part of the University Theses Series by Ikhlas Yasser al-Samarraie.
2009 Became an Emeritus professor at the College of Fine Arts at the University of Baghdad.
2010 The book "Saad al-Tai - Drawing on the Edges of Reality" by Dr. Jawad al-Zaidi was published.
2011 Held a solo exhibition of his work entitled "Return to the Unknown" at the Orfali Gallery, Amman.
2013 Held a solo exhibition of his works titled "The Illusion of Distances" at the Iraqi Business Council Hall and participated in the Iraqi Spaces Exhibition, which is the joint annual exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association, Baghdad.
2015 Participated in the annual exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association, Baghdad.
2016 The book "Saad Al-Tai - Watercolors" was published.
2017 Held a solo exhibition of his works titled "When Exile Becomes a Confession" at the halls of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association, Hiwar, and the College of Fine Arts, Baghdad. He participated in the Art Selections Exhibition of Contemporary Iraqi Art at the hall of the Tunisian Fine Artists Union in Tunis, the annual exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association in Baghdad, and the Babylonian Art Exhibition in Baghdad at the Iraqi Fine Artists Association, Baghdad.
2018 Participated in the annual exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association, Baghdad.
2019 Held a solo exhibition of his works titled "Alienation" at the Orfali Gallery, Amman and participated in the exhibition of Contemporary Artists from Iraq at Ras Al-Ain Gallery, Amman.
April 2025 Held his final solo exhibition ‘Hope’ at Iwan - Link Art Space, Baghdad, in which he displayed 77 works.
He lives in Baghdad and dedicates his time to his art.

- 1941 بدأ يرسم بعمر الستة أعوام متأثرًا بما كان يراه في رحلاته مع والده إلى الريف والحقول الزراعية وكان معلمه في الصف الأول الابتدائي يشجعه ويعطيه ألواناً ليرسم ويلون فيها.

- أواخر عام 1952 وبعمر السابعة عشر، سافر إلى بيروت متجهاً إلى إيطاليا ليبدأ دراسته في أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة في روما وكان كل من الفنانين خالد الرحال وفرج عبو وبعدها محمد غني حكمت مبتعثين من قِبل الحكومة لدراسة الفن في نفس الأكاديمية.

- 1955 حاز على جائزة "المنظر الإيطالي" كما يراه الفنانون الأجانب في إيطاليا.

- 1956 اشترك في معرض مع النحاتين خالد الرحال ومحمد غني حكمت في إيطاليا.

- 1957 – 1968 عضو في جماعة الانطباعيين.

- 1957 تخرج من أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة في روما وحاز على شهادة الماجستير منها. ثم عاد إلى بغداد.

- 2010 صدر عنه كتاب (سعد الطائي – الرسم على حواف الواقع) تأليف د. جواد الزيدي.

- 2011 أقام معرضاً شخصياً لأعماله تحت عنوان (عودة إلى المجهول) على قاعة الأورفلي في عمَان.

- 2013 أقام معرضاً شخصياً لأعماله تحت عنوان (وهم المسافات) على قاعة مجلس الأعمال العراقي واشترك في معرض فضاءات عراقية وهو المعرض التشكيلي السنوي المشترك لجمعية الفنانين التشكيليين العراقيين في بغداد.

- 2015 اشترك في المعرض السنوي لجمعية الفنانين التشكيليين العراقيين في بغداد.

- 2016 صدر عنه كتاب (سعد الطائي – مائيات).

- 2017 أقام معرضاً شخصياً لأعماله تحت عنوان (حين تكون الغربة بوحاً) على قاعات جمعية الفنانين التشكيليين العراقيين وحوار وكلية الفنون الجميلة في بغداد. اشترك في معرض مختارات من الفن العراقي المعاصر على قاعة اتحاد الفنانين التشكيليين التونسيين في تونس والمعرض السنوي لجمعية الفنانين التشكيليين العراقيين في بغداد ومعرض فن بابلي في بغداد في جمعية الفنانين التشكيليين العراقيين في بغداد.
