Ibrahimi Collection and Mushtarek Open Up Iraqi Art to the World
A new collaboration will make material from one of the world’s most extensive private collections of Iraqi art accessible to wider audiences through the Iraqi Memory digital platform.
The Ibrahimi Collection (IC) is partnering with Mushtarek, a cooperative working to preserve Iraq’s cultural and historical heritage and make knowledge more accessible.
The collaboration forms part of Iraqi Memory, Mushtarek’s initiative to preserve and share knowledge about Iraq across history, science, research and culture. Using digital tools including أعطيني نوراً (A3tini Nouran) and اقرأ (Iqra), the project enables people to explore archives in new, interactive ways through trustworthy AI.
The partnership will bring historic Iraqi art magazines, artworks, photographs and essays from the Ibrahimi Collection to the Iraqi Memory platform. Visitors will be able to explore these materials through a dedicated AI-powered tool and access the collection’s publications and archival material through a digital reader.
By making these resources easier to discover and explore, the collaboration aims to connect researchers, students and the wider public with Iraq’s artistic heritage. Art offers a distinctive perspective on the country’s history and collective memory, capturing experiences and ideas that complement written records.
The partnership was celebrated on 26 October 2026 at an event featuring contributions from representatives of both organizations and a guided tour of the gallery. The event marked a shared commitment to preserving Iraq’s cultural heritage and opening its archives to new generations and audiences around the world.
Together, the Ibrahimi Collection and Mushtarek aim to turn archival collections into accessible resources for discovery, research and public engagement.
Users can ask questions about the collection through the “Ask Anything” feature on the Ibrahimi Collection website: www.ibrahimicollection.com. Content from the Ibrahimi Collection, alongside other abstract art content, is also available from the Iraqi Memory on thakira.mushtarek.org or through the above QR code of the Mushtarek app.
