1926 Born in Baghdad, Iraq.
1946-1951 Studied Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley in California, USA, then returned to Iraq.
After graduating, he established his architectural firm in partnership with architect Adnan Zaki Amin and later Abdel Sattar Ayach.
He designed several buildings in various cities across Iraq, and his architecture is regarded as one of the most prestigious examples of modern Iraqi design. Notable projects include the Salman Faik Hospital in Al-Alwiya (1956), the Naji Jawad Al-Saati Building in Al-Saadoon (1962), and the Abdul-Karim Qasim Secondary School for Girls in Essaouira (1962). He also worked on Al-Mustansiriya University in Baghdad (1963-1966), the National Electric Power Building Company in Al-Midan, Baghdad (1965), the General Trade Corporation in Karradat Maryam (1967), and the insurance building near Al-Tayaran Square (1968), among others.
He began practicing painting while attending university. He became a member of the Baghdad Group for Modern Art alongside artists such as Jewad Selim, Shakir Hassan Al-Said, Kalid Al-Rahhal, and others.
He actively participated in their exhibitions throughout Iraq.
His work often embraced abstraction in his drawings, and he was recognized as one of the pioneers of modernity in both the architectural and art fields in Iraq.
1972 Passed away in Baghdad after a heart attack at the age of forty-six.

- 1926 وُلد الفنان والمعماري قحطان عوني في بغداد.

- 1946-1951 درس العمارة في جامعة بيركلي في كاليفورنيا في أمريكا، ثم عاد إلى العراق.

- بعد تخرجه، أسس عوني شركته المعمارية الخاصة بالشراكة مع المهندس المعماري عدنان زكي أمين وبعد ذلك المهندس عبد الستار عياش.

- مارس الرسم منذ دراسته الجامعية واشترك في العديد من المعارض التي أقيمت في عدد من قاعات العرض في بغداد.

- 1951 انضمّ إلى جماعة بغداد للفن الحديث وتعززت علاقته مع جواد سليم وشاكر حسن وخالد الرحال وباقي أعضاء الجماعة وشارك في أغلب معارضها برسوماته التي نحت منحى التجريد والتي ظهر فيها تأثير الفكر المعماري والهيكلي في تشكيل سطحه التصويري.

- صمم عدة مبانٍ في مدن مختلفة في العراق، اعتبرت عمارتها من نماذج عمارة الحداثة العراقية الحديثة المرموقة، منها مستشفى سلمان فائق في العلوية (1956)، ومبنى ناجي جواد الساعاتي في السعدون (1962)، وثانوية الزعيم عبد الكريم قاسم للبنات في الصويرة (1962)، والجامعة المستنصرية ببغداد (1963 -1966)، ومبنى مصلحة الكهرباء الوطنية في الميدان ببغداد (1965)، والمؤسسة العامة للتجارة في كرادة مريم (1967)، ومبنى التأمين بالقرب من ساحة الطيران (1968) وغيرها.

- كان من رواد مرحلة الحداثة في العراق في الحقلين المعماري والتشكيلي.

- 1972 تُوفي الفنان في بغداد إثر سكته قلبية عن عمر يناهز السادسة والأربعين عاماً.
