1928 Artist Rasoul Alwan was born in Baghdad, Iraq.
1952 The artist studied at the College of Commerce and Economics and graduated from it. Then, he joined the Baghdad Group for Modern Art.
1954 He participated in the Baghdad Group for Modern Art’s third exhibition in Baghdad. He participated in most of their exhibitions. He also obtained a certificate from the Institute of Fine Arts.
He taught fine arts at Al-Karkh High School and continued teaching until 1958, after which he worked as a teacher at the Institute of Fine Arts until his retirement.
1955 He participated in the itinerant Iraqi exhibition in India and exhibited one painting.
956 He participated in the Baghdad Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture, held at Al-Mansour Club, exhibiting one painting.
1959 He was sent on a fellowship to West Germany in Munich. There, he studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts and graduated from it and began being influenced by the German Expressionist School.
1963 He was sent a fellowship to Berlin, the capital of East Germany, and he studied at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts and obtained a master’s degree. There, he learned art from prominent professors from the artists of the German Expressionist School such as Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, one of the founders of the German Bridge Group “Die Brücke”, which was founded in 1905 and influenced by the Norwegian artist and pioneer of expressionism, Edvard Munch, in 1863, who lived and exhibited his works in Berlin in 1892. Among the members of this group were a number of artists, including Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Fritz Bleyl, Erich Heckel. This group was also influenced by Dutch artist Van Gogh.
The artist held a solo exhibition at S Gallery in Berlin.
1971 He participated in the Baghdad Group Exhibition on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the group's founding.
He spent most of his time to research and teaching art history at the Institute of Fine Arts. He was a skilled professor and a brilliant orator from whom knowledge radiated. He was deeply knowledgeable for his specialty and known for his intellectuality and accuracy in the information he taught. He used to carry with him a large black bag, containing all kinds of art books, which accompanied him wherever he went. It was as though he was carrying his whole office with him.
7 April 1978, He participated in the Fifth ِApril Art Exhibition at the Art Academy hall in Baghdad.
1996 The artist passed away at the age of sixty-eight, and an honorary exhibition was held for him at the Athar Gallery in Baghdad
He was a member of the Friends of Art Association.
He was a member of the Baghdad Group for Modern Art.
He was a member of the Iraqi Artists Association.

1928 ولد الفنان رسول علوان في العاصمة بغداد في العراق
1952 درس الفنان في كلية التجارة والاقتصاد وتخرج منها وأنتمى الى جماعة بغداد للفن الحديث.
1954 اشترك في معرض جماعة بغداد للفن الحديث الثالث في بغداد واشترك في معظم معارضهم وحصل على شهادة من معهد الفنون الجميلة.
درّس الفنون الجميلة في ثانوية الكرخ واستمر في التعليم لحد عام 1958 وبعدها عمل كمدرس في معهد الفنون الجميلة الى تقاعده.
1955 شارك في المعرض العراقي المتنقل في الهند وعرض لوحة واحدة.
1956 شارك في معرض بغداد للرسم والنحت الذي اقيم في نادي المنصور وعرض لوحة واحدة
1959 أبتعث في زمالة دراسية الى المانيا الغربية مدينة ميونخ، في ودرس في كلية الفنون الجميلة وتخرج منها وبدأ تأثره بالمدرسة التعبيرية الألمانية.
1963 أبتعث بزمالة دراسية الى مدينة برلين عاصمة المانيا الشرقية ودرس في المعهد العالي للفنون الجميلة وحصل على شهادة الماجستير، حيث تعلّم الفنون على أساتذة بارزين من فناني المدرسة التعبيرية الالمانية مثل "كارل شمت روتلوف 1884-1976" وهو أحد مؤسسي جماعة الجسر الالمانية والتي تأسست في سنة 1905 والتي تأثرت بالفنان النرويجي ورائد التعبيرية "ادوارد مونخ " 1863 والذي عاش وعرض اعماله في برلين سنة 1892. وكان من أعضاء هذه الجماعة عدد من الفنانين منهم Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Fritz Bleyl, Erich Heckel ، وتأثرت هذه الجماعة أيضا بالفنان الهولندي فان كوخ.
اقام الفنان معرض شخصي في كاليري S في برلين.
1971 اشترك في معرض جماعة بغداد بمناسبة مرور عشرين عاماُ على تأسيس الجماعة.
منح جلّ وقته للبحث والتدريس حيث يقال عنه أعطى وقته الى البحث والتدريس لمادة التاريخ في معهد الفنون الجميلة، وكان استاذا حاذقا وخطيبا بارعا تنطلق منه المعارف كالسيل الذي لا يرد لسعة ثقافته ولدقة معلوماته، وكان يحمل معه حقيبة سوداء ضخمة فيها انواع الكتب الفنية ترافقه اينما حل ورحل وكأنه يحمل معه مكتبه.
7 ابريل 1978 اشترك في معرض نيسان الخامس على قاعة اكاديمية الفنون في بغداد.
1996 توفى الفنان عن عمر يناهز الثمانية وستون واقيم له معرض تكريمي على قاعة اثر في بغداد
