  • 1924 Born in Baghdad, Iraq.
  • Jamil Hamoudi is considered the pioneer of the "Arabic Hurufiyya” school, who worked on it since the beginning of the forties of the twentieth century.
  • 1942 Became a member of the Friends of Art Association in Baghdad.
  • 1944 Studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad while giving art and history lessons at a school in Baghdad.
  • 1945 Graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts and was appointed as Editor-in-Chief and director of publication for the magazine "Modern Thought."
  • 1946 Appointed as Secretary General of the Friends of Art Association. He supervised and participated in the Modern Thought exhibition at the Hall of Fashion Museum in Baghdad, where artists from different countries participated.
  • 1947 Granted a scholarship to France to complete his studies at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris (Beaux-Arts), and he did several types of research on the subject of “Assyrian-Babylonian Languages and Art.” He studied art as well, at the Académie Julian, and studied art history at the Louvre School.
  • 1950-1962 Held many solo exhibitions at a number of Parisian Galleries during his residency in Paris.
  • 1953 Enrolled at the University of Paris - Faculty of Arts (the Sorbonne) to study "Abstract Origins in Ancient Iraqi Art."
  • 1955 Published several poems in French titled "Dreams from the East" and founded a publishing house in Paris called ‘Ashtar.’
  • 1958 Founded ‘Ashtar Magazine: East and West’ and the ‘Ishtar Art and Cultural Club’.
  • 1962 Settled in Baghdad and remained in constant and close relationships with his acquaintances and friends in Paris, always traveling back there.
  • 1965 Held an exhibition at the Al-Wasiti Hall in Baghdad.
  • 1971 Became a member of the One Dimension Group.
  • 1973 Participated in the second exhibition of the One Dimension Group in Baghdad and the fifteenth exhibition of the Fine Artists Association at the Hall of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association.
  • 1974 Participated in the cultural festival of Al-Thawra Newspaper in Baghdad.
  • 1986 Held a solo exhibition at the National Museum of African Arts in Paris and participated in the International Festival of Fine Art in Baghdad.
  • 1987 Awarded the French Medal of Arts and Literature by the French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang.
  • 1989 Retired and founded the Inana House of Art in Baghdad.
  • 1997 Held a solo exhibition of oil paintings at Athar Gallery in Baghdad.
  • 1998 Held a solo exhibition of watercolor at Aba’ad Gallery in Baghdad, and from 1st-15th November, a retrospective exhibition was held at the Sharjah Museum in the Emirates.
  • 2000 Held a solo exhibition at Al-Riwaq Gallery in Baghdad.
  • He participated in artworks, such as paintings, sculptures, and graphic art, in many collective exhibitions, and he organized exhibitions of French artists from the Arab world in Paris from 1950 to 1962 alongside his solo exhibitions.
  • 2001 Awarded the French Medal of Honor by the French President, Jacques Chirac.
  • 2003 Passed away in Baghdad at the age of seventy-nine years and was buried there.

  • يعتبر الفنان جميل حمودي رائد المدرسة "الحروفية العربية" والذي اشتغل عليها منذ بداية الاربعينات من القرن العشرين.
  • 1942 أصبح عضو في جمعية أصدقاء الفن.
  • 1944 درس في معهد الفنون الجميلة في بغداد وبنفس الوقت كان يعطي دروس رسم وتاريخ فن في مدرسة في بغداد.
  • 1945 تخرج من معهد الفنون الجميلة وتعين كرئيس تحرير ومدير للنشر في مجلة "الفكر الحديث".
  • 1946 تم تعينه كأمين عام لجمعية أصدقاء الفن واشرف واشترك في معرض الفكر الحديث في قاعة متحف الازياء في بغداد الذي شارك فيه فنانين من دول مختلفة.
  • 1947 تم منحه بعثة الى فرنسا لإكمال دراسته في المدرسة الوطنية للفنون الجميلة في باريس (البوزار) وعمل عدة بحوث عن موضوع اللغات الآشورية البابلية والفن ودرس فن التخطيط في اكاديمية جوليان ودرس تاريخ الفن في مدرسة اللوفر.
  • 1950 – 1962 اقام عدد من المعارض الشخصية في بعض قاقعات العرض الفرنسية في باريس أثناء وجوده فيها.
  • 1952 اقام معرض شخصي في باريس.
  • 1953 سجل كطالب في جامعة باريس – كلية الآداب (السوربون) لدراسة "الاصول التجريدية في الفن العراقي القديم"
  • 1955 أصدر عدة قصائد باللغة الفرنسية بعنوان "احلام من الشرق" وأسس دار نشر في باريس تدعى دار اشتار
  • 1958 اسس "مجلة اشتار – الشرق والغرب" ونادي عشتار الفني والثقافي.
  • 1962 استقر في بغداد وظل على علاقة مستمرة وقريبة مع معارفه وأصدقائه في باريس ودائم السفر اليها.
  • 1965 اقام معرض على قاعة الواسطي في بغداد.
  • 1971 أصبح عضو في مجموعة البعد الواحد
  • 1973 اشترك في المعرض الثاني لجماعة البعد الواحد في بغداد ومعرض جمعية الفنانين التشكيليين الخامس عشر على قاعة جمعية الفنانين التشكيليين.
  • 1974 اشترك في المهرجان الثقافي لجريدة الثورة في بغداد
  • 1986 اقام معرض شخصي في المتحف الوطني للفنون الافريقية في باريس واشترك في المهرجان العالمي للفن التشكيلي في بغداد.
  • 1987 نال أعلى وسام فرنسي للفنون والآداب للدولة الفرنسية من قبل وزير الثقافة الفرنسي جاك لانك.
  • 1989 احيل على التقاعد وأسس دار اينانا للفنون في بغداد.
  • 1997 اقام معرض شخصي للوحات زيتية على قاعة أثر في بغداد.
  • 1998 اقام معرض شخصي للألوان المائية على قاعة ابعاد في بغداد ومن 01 – 15 نوفمبر، اقيم له معرض استعادي في متحف الشارقة في الامارات.
  • 2000 اقام معرض شخصي في كاليري الرواق في بغداد.
  • شارك بأعمال فنية في الرسم والنحت وفن الكرافيك في الكثير من المعارض الجماعية المشتركة ونظّم معارض لفنانين فرنسيين ومن العالم العربي في باريس منذ 1950 الى 1962 بجانب معارضه الشخصية.
  • 2001 نال على وسام الشرف الفرنسي من قبل الرئيس الفرنسي جاك شيراك.
  • 2003 تُوفي الفنان في بغداد عن عمر يناهز التاسعة والسبعين عاماً ودُفن فيها.
