1938 Born in Basra, Iraq, and was the youngest of three siblings. He studied at Al-Ma’aqal Elementary School, and his talent for fine art emerged at an early age, when he was dubbed "the school painter". He studied Secondary School at the “AlRaja’a AlAli” Pre-High School in Basra.
1955 Participated in a joint exhibition with his colleagues in the Al-Ashar High School, which they organized to display their artworks.
1956 Studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad in the evening department; after four years, he graduated with the highest grade and obtained a diploma in the art of painting. He was influenced by his teachers, Jewad Selim, and particularly Faik Hassan. Ismail Fattah, Kadhim Haidar, Nouri Al-Rawi, Talib Mekki, Saad Shaker, Tareq Ibrahim, and Mohammad Radi were among the students studying there at the time.
1959 Participated in an exhibition at the Iraqi Fine Artists Association in Baghdad.
1960 Traveled to Poland, where he got a scholarship to study the arts in Warsaw.
1965 Held his 1st solo exhibition of his graphic productions at Aya Gallery, Baghdad, and in the same year, he participated in the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition, Baghdad.
1966 Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland, and obtained a master's degree in Fine Art, where his Polish professors influenced him. Then he studied and was influenced by the attempts of the Spanish artist Antoni Tàpies, especially in the use of various materials. He returned to Iraq in the same year.
1967 Held his 2nd solo exhibition and participated in the graphic exhibition at Tala Gallery, Baghdad.
1968 Participated in the ‘Battle Exhibition’ at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1969 Along with other Iraqi artists, such as Rafa Nasiri, Ismail Fattah, Dia al-Azzawi, Saleh Al-Jumaie, and Hashim Samarchi, they founded the ‘Towards a New Vision’ Group.
1970 Participated in the 1st exhibition of posters of the Towards a New Vision Group, Baghdad.
1971 Participated in the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition, in cooperation with the Iraqi Fine Artists Association, Kuwait.
1972 Participated in the 1st Exhibition of Al-Wasiti Festival, Baghdad, the New Delhi Triennial, India, and the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1973 Participated in the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition, Baghdad, the 15th Exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association, Baghdad, and the Retrospective Iraqi Art Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1974 Participated in the 1st Arab Biennial in Baghdad and the Cultural Festival of Al-Thawra Newspaper, Baghdad.
1976 Participated in the 2nd Arab Biennial, Morocco, the Cagnes-sur-mer Festival for Art, France, the International Fine Art Association Exhibition, Baghdad, and the 3rd April Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1977 Participated in the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition in London and Tunisia, the Iraq Exhibition in Bonn, Paris, and London, and the 4th April Exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad.
1978 Held his 3rd solo exhibition entitled ‘Strange in this World’ at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad. He used various techniques in his works, such as graphics, photography, and sculpture. He participated in an exhibition of eight Arab artists in London and the International Exhibition for Palestine Support in Beirut. During this period, he began focusing on social, global, and local issues, with an overt critical vision.
1980 Held his 4th solo exhibition at Al-Riwaq Gallery, Baghdad, in which he displayed 25 oil works.
1981 Participated in a joint exhibition with the artist Ala Bashir.
1982 Participated in the 2nd International Exhibition of Wall Posters in Baghdad and won a 2nd prize of appreciation, and participated in the Cairo Painting Biennial.
1983 Held a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings at Al-Rasheed Hall, Baghdad.
1985 Held a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings at Al-Riwaq Hall, Baghdad.
1986 Participated in the 1st Asian-European Biennial, Ankara, Turkey, and the 1st International Arts Festival, Baghdad.
1988 Participated in the 2nd Baghdad International Festival, Baghdad, and won the golden prize for painting.
1989 Held a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings at Al-Orfali Hall, Baghdad, and a second at Al-Nasiri Studio, Baghdad. He also participated in an exhibition of ten Iraqi artists in Paris, and the 1st Ankara Biennial of Art, and won the 2nd prize for painting.
1990 Participated in an exhibition of seven Iraqi artists at the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, Amman, Jordan, and the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition, Cyprus.
1992 Held a solo exhibition of paintings at the Arts Center, Baghdad, and participated in an exhibition of three artists in Tunisia, and an exhibition of three Iraqi artists at the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, Amman.
1993 Participated in an exhibition of four Iraqi artists at Al-Wasiti Gallery, Morocco, and the Art Biennial, Bangladesh. He won a Medal of Honor with a certificate of appreciation from them.
1994 Held a solo exhibition of paintings at Abaad Gallery, Amman.
1995 Held a solo exhibition of paintings in Amman and Baghdad.
1997 Held a solo exhibition of paintings, Baghdad.
1998 Held a solo exhibition of paintings in Amman and Baghdad, and won the National Prize for Creativity in Baghdad.
1999 Held a solo exhibition of paintings on oil and paper at the French Cultural Center, Baghdad, and participated in the ‘Summer of '99 - Fifty Years of Contemporary Iraqi Graphic Art’ at Darat al Funun, Amman.
2000 Participated in the exhibition ‘The Magic of Moments in Nature and Place’, at Gallery Art, Baghdad, and the exhibition ‘Journeys with Contemporary Art in the Arab World - Contemporary Artists from Mesopotamia’ at Darat Al Funun, Amman.
2001 Held his 16th solo exhibition of paintings and graphics, entitled ‘The Trap of Globalization’, in Amman and Baghdad.
2001-2002 Held a solo exhibition in Amman and Baghdad.
2003 Held a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings at the French Cultural Center, Baghdad.
2004 Held a solo exhibition at Athar Gallery, Baghdad.
2005 Participated in an exhibition with the artist Delair Saad Shaker, entitled ‘The Generations’ at Al-Orfali Gallery, Amman, and participated in an exhibition with the artist Shaddad Abdulqahhar at Athar Gallery, Baghdad.
2006 Held a solo exhibition at Dar Al-Anda Gallery, Amman.
2008 Held a solo exhibition at the Lions Gallery, Amman, and an exhibition of paintings at Sultan Gallery, Kuwait.
2010 Held a solo exhibition of paintings at Al-Orfali Gallery, Amman, and another solo exhibition at the Polish Embassy, Amman.
2013 Participated in the 1st Arab Fine Art Festival at Ishtar Gallery in the National Library, Amman.
2014 Held his last solo exhibition, entitled ‘The Dirty War’, at Al-Orfali Gallery, Amman.
23 April 2015 Passed away in Amman at the age of seventy-seven, and was buried there.
November 2015 An honorary exhibition was held for him and his family, recalling his artistic career, at Bandak Art Gallery, Amman.
2016 A retrospective exhibition entitled ‘A Year After His Departure’ was held for his 1st anniversary of his death at the Bandak Art Gallery, Amman.

- 1955 اشترك في معرض مع زملائه في قاعة ثانوية العشار والذي تم تنظيمه من قبلهم لعرض نتاجاتهم التشكيلية.

- 1956 درس في معهد الفنون الجميلة في بغداد في القسم المسائي وتخرج منه بعد أربع سنوات بأعلى معدل وحاز على دبلوم فن الرسم. تأثر بأساتذته الفنان جواد سليم والفنان فائق حسن وكان من نفس دفعته كل من إسماعيل فتاح وكاظم حيدر ونوري الراوي وطالب مكي وسعد شاكر وطارق إبراهيم ومحمد راضي.

- 1959 اشترك في معرض جماعي في جمعية الفنانين التشكيليين في بغداد.

- 1960 سافر إلى بولندا حيث حصل على بعثة دراسية لدراسة الفنون التشكيلية هناك.

- 1965 أقام معرضه الشخصي الأول لنتاجاته الكرافيكية على قاعة آيا في بغداد، وفي نفس العام اشترك في معرض الفن العراقي المعاصر في بغداد.

- 1966 تخرج من أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة في وارسو في بولندا وحاز على شهادة ماجستير في فن الرسم والكرافيك حيث تأثر بأساتذته من الفنانين البولنديين وبعدها درس وتأثر بتجربة الفنان الإسباني أنطونيو تابيس وخاصة في استخدام المواد المختلفة. ثم عاد في نفس العام إلى العراق.

- 1967 أقام معرضه الشخصي الثاني واشترك في معرض الكرافيك على قاعة تالة في بغداد.

- 1968 اشترك في "معرض المعركة" الجماعي في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث في بغداد.

- 1969 أسس مع فنانين عراقيين آخرين مثل رافع الناصري، إسماعيل فتاح، ضياء العزاوي، صالح الجميعي، هاشم السمرجي "جماعة نحو رؤيا جديدة".
