1937 Born in the Najaf province, Iraq.
1943-1955 Completed his primary and high school in Najaf.
1955-1959 Studied at the Institute of Fine Arts, Baghdad; his professors were Jewad Selim, Faik Hassan, and other pioneer artists in Iraq.
1960-1966 Taught art in some high schools in Iraq.
1964 Participated in the 6th Art Exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association in Baghdad.
1965 Held a solo exhibition at Al-Wasiti Hall on Al-Saadoun Street, which the architects Said Ali Madhloom and Henry Zvoboda managed.
1966-1970 Held a solo exhibition in Beirut, and some articles about the exhibition were published in Al-Hayat and Al-Safir newspapers. In the same year, he was delegated to teach fine arts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and was warmly welcomed, where he resided first at Tabuk. The mayor and many people of Tabuk were from the same tribe as him, “Bani Kaab.” They prepared a free studio for him to work in, and he taught art there for a while. Then, he was transferred to become the director of the Department of Painting, Fine Arts at the Institute of Art Education in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During that time, the Riyadh Art Group emerged. He inspired many young Saudi artists, such as Mohammed Al-Rasis, Fouad Al-Maghribel, Ali Al-Rizaiza, and Bakr Shaikhoun. He held 3 solo exhibitions during his residency in Saudi Arabia. His 1st exhibition was in an old house built in clay in Saudi Style in Riyadh, which the Minister of Education inaugurated. The 2nd exhibition was held in the Municipal Hall for celebrations, and the 3rd was held in the Al-Yamamah Hotel.
1967 Held a solo exhibition at Gallery One in Beirut, Lebanon.
28 March 1968 Held a solo exhibition at the Gulbenkian Hall in the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad.
1972 Participated in the Iraqi Contemporary Art Exhibition at the Gulbenkian Hall in the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad.
1974 Held a solo exhibition at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad. He participated in the Cultural Festival of Al-Thawra Newspaper in and the 1st Arab Biennial, Baghdad.
1976 Participated in the Iraqi booth at the International Biennial of Venice in Italy.
1980 Participated in the Cagnes-sur-Mer International Festival in France and won a prize from the festival.
1981 Participated in the Kuwait Arab Biennial in Kuwait and won the Golden Prize.
1981-1985 Became director of theatrical production at the Film and Theater Institution, designed many theatrical decorations, and was appointed an art director and a decorative designer.
1982 Participated in the 5th International India Triennale in New Delhi, India, and won the 1st prize. He also participated in the 2nd Al-Wasiti Festival in Baghdad.
1984 Participated in 1st Cairo International Biennial in Cairo, Egypt.
1985-1987 Founded and headed the Iraqi Fine Art Club.
1985-1988 Appointed as Director of Art and Culture at the Ministry of Culture.
1986-1990 Elected president of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association.
1986 Participated in the 1st Cairo International Biennial in Egypt. His works were exhibited at the 3rd Dhaka Asian Biennial in Bangladesh, in which he won the gold medal, and the 1st Baghdad International Festival, for which he took charge of the festival’s secretariat.
1988 Participated in the 2nd Baghdad International Festival for Contemporary Art, and he was a member of the supervising committee of the festival.
1990 Held a solo exhibition at Hiwar Gallery in Baghdad. He participated in the 3rd Asian-European Biennial in Turkey and won an award, and in the Seven Artists exhibition at the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation in Amman, Jordan. He became a member of the international jury of the Dhaka Asian Biennial in Bangladesh.
1994 Became a member of the jury of the Islamic Art Biennial in Tehran, Iran.
1997 Held a solo exhibition at Agial Gallery in Beirut, Lebanon. He participated in an exhibition with artists Ismail Fattah and Lisa Fattah at Baghdad Gallery.
1998 Held a solo exhibition at Athar Gallery in Baghdad. Participated in the International Festival of Fine Arts and Graphics in Mouscron, Belgium, and received a certificate of excellence in graphics.
1999 Became a member of the international jury of the Dhaka Biennial in Bangladesh.
2000 Held two solo exhibitions at Galerie Arcima in Paris, France, and Orient Gallery in Amman, Jordan. He participated in the exhibition “Journey through the Contemporary Arts in the Arab World: Contemporary Arab Artists from Wadi al Rafideen (Iraq)” at Darat al Funun in Amman, Jordan.
2001 Held 2 solo exhibitions entitled “Dialogue with the Self” at the Dijla Art Gallery in Baghdad and at the 4 Walls Gallery in Amman, Jordan.
2004 Became a member of the jury of the Islamic Art Biennial in Tehran, Iran. He held a solo exhibition at the 4 Walls Gallery in Amman, Jordan.
2005 Held a solo exhibition at the Agial Gallery in Beirut, Lebanon.
2006 Held a solo exhibition entitled “Silent Discussion” in Cairo, Egypt, an exhibition entitled “From the Desert” at the Orfali Gallery in Amman, Jordan, and a solo exhibition at Al-Riwaq Gallery in Bahrain.
2008 Held a solo exhibition, "Deserts," at the Jareen Art Gallery, Najaf, Iraq.
2010 Honored in the joint exhibition of some Arab artists at the Autumn Salon in Paris to celebrate their artistic career, as his works were given ten meters of space in which seven works were exhibited that represent the development of his experience, and he was honored for his achievements in his artistic career. He held a solo exhibition, "Silent Discussion," at the Rafia Gallery in Damascus, Syria, and “Dialogue of Memory” at the Orfali Gallery in Amman, Jordan.
2014 Held a solo exhibition, "Discourse of Silence," at the Orient Gallery in Amman, Jordan.
2016 Held a solo exhibition, "Discourse of Silence," at the Agial Gallery in Beirut, Lebanon.
2017 Held a solo exhibition, "Discourse of Silence," at the Creativity Gallery in Cairo, Egypt. He displayed 41 works.
2018 Held a solo exhibition, "Discourse of Silence," at the Al Markhiya Gallery in Doha, Qatar.
2020 After more than fifty years, the Saudi Ministry of Culture held an exhibition of artists entitled "After a While" in Riyadh, which included various works, especially for the period of his stay in Saudi Arabia. He reunited with some of his students, such as artists Mohammed Al-Rasis, Fouad Al-Maghribel, Ali Al-Rizaiza, and Bakr Shaikhoun, who became the pioneers of the Saudi artistic movement. The Saudi Ministry of Culture and his students celebrated him in February 2020. They organized a solo exhibition for him in Riyadh to celebrate Al-Kaabi’s artistic career, which was linked to the beginnings of the Saudi plastic arts movement.
2022 Held a solo exhibition, "Discourse of Silence," at the Orfali Art Gallery in Amman, Jordan.
He continues his art activity, practicing art and holding many exhibitions in Jordan, Egypt, and other cities all over the Arab countries.
He lives in Southern California, USA, and is devoted to his art.

- 1937 ولد الفنان سعدي الكعبي في محافظة النجف الأشرف في العراق.

- 1943 - 1955 أكمل دراسته الابتدائية والمتوسطة والثانوية في النجف.

- 1955 - 1959 أكمل دراسته في معهد الفنون الجميلة في بغداد وتتلمذ على يد جواد سليم، فائق حسن والرواد الأوائل.

- 1960 - 1966 درّس الفن في المدارس الثانوية في العراق.

- 1966 - 1970 أقام معرض شخصي في بيروت وتم نشر مقالات عنه في جريدة الحياة والسفير. سافر إلى تبوك في المملكة العربية السعودية ورحبوا به كثيراً حيث كان رئيس البلدية والأكثرية من أهل تبوك من بني كعب وأعطوا الفنان استوديو حر ليعمل فيه ودرّس الفن وأصبح مديراً لقسم الرسم - الفنون التشكيلية في معهد التربية الفنية في الرياض في السعودية، وخلال ذلك ظهرت جماعة الرياض للفنون. ألهم العديد من الفنانين السعوديين الشباب مثل محمد الرصيص، وفؤاد المغربل، علي الرزيزاء، وبكر شيخون. وأقام ثلاثة معارض شخصية خلال فترة تدريسه للفنون في المملكة، فكان أول معرض فني له في بيت تراثي من الطين في الرياض وافتتحه وزير المعارف، وثاني معرض في قاعة البلدية للاحتفالات وثالث معرض أقيم في فندق اليمامة.

- استمر بنشاطه الفني في الساحة التشكيلية العراقية داخل وخارج العراق وزار العراق عدة مرات وأقام معارض شخصية في الأردن ومصر وفي أماكن أخرى على الساحة العربية.
