1914 Born in Baghdad, in Al-Haydar Khan. His father died when he was young, so his maternal uncle, who worked as a gardener in the royal court gardens, cared for him.
1920 Studied in several schools, including Al-Baroudia Elementary School, Al-Haidariya Schools, and Al-Owainah.
As a young child, he was fond of art and began drawing in the last stage of his elementary education. His uncle Fadil Abdul Ghani encouraged him to develop his talent and was proud of him among his friends. Faik accompanied his uncle from time to time to his workplace in the royal court. By chance, King Faisal I noticed this child's landscape drawings and admired them and encouraged him to continue. Even more, he promised to send him to study art in Europe. This remained a dream entertaining the child in the waking and dreaming. Despite the death of King Faisal I in 1933, King Ghazi committed to the will after two years, and the boy was awarded a scholarship at the expense of the Iraqi government in France. Faik applied to the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris and presented his artworks and drawings to Professor Roger, who willingly accepted him.
1935 Studied art at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts for three years.
1938 Graduated and obtained a diploma with an excellent degree. The same year, he returned to Baghdad and was assigned as an Art Teacher in the Teachers' Primary School. Participated in an Art Exhibition with some foreign artists at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad.
1939 - 1940 Contributed to founding the Painting Department at the Institute of Fine Arts and started teaching painting and sculpturing. In cooperation with the theater’s artist Hakki Al-Shibli, they founded the Iraqi Theater.
1941 Participated in the 1st Exhibition of the Friends of Art Association in Baghdad.
1942 Appointed as a Teacher at the Institute of Fine Arts and participated in its 1st Annual Exhibition.
1943 In cooperation with Jewad Selim, they designed scenes of the play (Al-Watan) and (The Doctor Against His Will), held at the Institute of Fine Arts. Participated in the 3rd Exhibition of the Friends of Art Association, which was held at the British Cultural Institute.
1944 Elected as a member of the Administrative Board of the Friends of Art Association with Akram Shukri, Jewad Selim, Abdel Halim Al-Sunna, Suad Selim, Rose Mary, and Nahida Al-Haidari.
1946 Participated in the 6th Exhibition of the Friends of Art Association held at the Iraqi Fashion Museum.
1948 Elected as Art Director of the Folk Chamber of Acting, designed scenes for the play (Martyrs of Patriotism), and participated in the Iraqi Art Exhibition at the UNESCO Hall in Beirut.
1950 Founded the Société Primitive later became The Pioneers Group and participated in all its exhibitions until 1962.
1951 Traveled to La Bretagne in France, where he met a French lady called Suzanne Côtier.
1952 Elected as Vice President of the Friends of Art Association, participated in the Ibn Sina Festival and participated in an Art Exhibition in Dar Baher Faik.
September 18, 1953 Married Suzanne Côtier, who became his wife and the mother of his only son.
1953 Participated in the 3rd Pioneers Group Exhibition.
1955 The artist and his wife had a son named Habeel. Participated in an Itinerant Art Exhibition with Ismail Al-Cheikhli in India. Won the Dutch Aviation Award at the Baghdad Exhibition for Painting and Sculpture. Also, became a member of the administrative board of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association.
1957 Participated in the Baghdad Exhibition for Painting and Sculpture held at Al-Mansour Club Hall in Baghdad, the Joint Exhibition in Orosdi-Back stores on Al-Rashid Street in Baghdad, the Middle East Friends Exhibition at UNESCO Hall in Beirut and the 2nd Exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association held at the Olympic Club in the Adhamia Youth Center.
July - August 1958 Participated with Jewad Selim, Ismail Al-Cheikhli, and Khalid Al-Jadir in several Art Exhibitions in Morocco and Tunisia and participated in the Baghdad Exhibition for Painting and Sculpture at Al-Mansour Club and the 5th Pioneers Group Exhibition at the Hall of the Institute of Fine Arts.
1961 Appointed as an Art Supervisor in the Painting and Sculpture Department at the Academy of Fine Arts and participated in the 2nd Exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association at the Association’s Hall.
1962 Held his 2nd Solo Exhibition at the Friends of the Middle East Association in Baghdad and participated in the 6th Pioneers Group Exhibition at the Institute of Fine Arts.
1963 Became a member of the administrative committee of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association.
1964 Won the Gold Award as the best Iraqi Artist from the Gulbenkian Foundation and held his 3rd Solo Exhibition at the Friends of the Middle East American Cultural Center in Baghdad and participated in the 6th Exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association at the National Museum of Modern Art.
1965 Held his 4th Solo Exhibition in cooperation with the American Friends of the Middle East in New York, United States of America. He participated in the 7th Exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, the Iraqi Contemporary Art Exhibition at Gallery One in Beirut, and the Itinerant Drawing Exhibition in Beirut.
1966 Held his 5th Solo Exhibition in cooperation with the American Friends of the Middle East in Washington, United States of America. He participated in the 8th Exhibition of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association, which was held at the Association's Hall.
1967 Founded Al-Zawiya Group with Kadhim Haidar, Mohammed Ghani Hikmat, Ghazi Al-Saudi, Valentinos, and Ismail Fattah. He left The Pioneers Group, participated in Al-Zawiya Group’s 1st Exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art, and then held his 6th Solo Exhibition at the Friends of the Middle East American Cultural Center in Baghdad.
1969 Appointed as Head of the Department of Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts.
1971 Held his 7th Solo Exhibition at the British Studies Center in Baghdad and participated in the 2nd Biennale in Kuwait.
1972 Honored at the 25th anniversary of establishing the Ruling Party, along with Hafidh Al-Droubi, Akram Shukri, and Ata Sabri within the Al-Wasiti Festival.
1973 Participated in many exhibitions this year, such as the Iraqi Fine Artists Association exhibition, the Iraqi Exhibition at the 1st Conference of the World Federation of Arab Artists at the National Museum of Modern Art, the Portraits Exhibition of Iraqi Artists at the National Museum of Modern Art and the 15th Iraqi Fine Artists Association Exhibition at the Association’s Hall.
1974 Participated in the Iraqi Art Exhibition within the Iraqi Cultural Week in Egypt, the Iraqi Artists Exhibition at the French Cultural Center, and the 1st Iraqi Art Exhibition in Baghdad.
1975 Became the Chairman of the National Committee for Fine Arts and participated in the Iraqi Art Exhibition in Algeria and the 2nd April Exhibition at the Iraqi Museum of Modern Art.
1976 Completed and installed many artworks in different buildings in Baghdad, including two oil paintings for the headquarters of the Central Bank of Iraq, which were later deemed as an image on the front of the Iraqi paper currency. He became Vice President of the International Fine Artists Association and Head of the Iraqi Delegation at Baghdad's 8th International Association of Fine Arts Conference. Participated in the Tel Al-Zaatar Epic Exhibition at the Iraqi Museum of Modern Art, the Itinerant Iraqi Art Exhibition in Europe, and the 2nd Arab Biennale Exhibition at the Oudayas Museum in Rabat, Morocco, as well as the 3rd April Exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art and the International Exhibition Against Racial Discrimination in the same museum.
1977 Inaugurated as an Honorary President of the Iraqi Fine Artists Association. His Honorary Retrospective Exhibition was held at the National Museum of Modern Art.
1978 Participated in the 5th April Exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art.
1979 Participated in the Iraqi Art Exhibition in Italy and the 6th April Exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art.
1980 Participated in the 7th April Exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art.
1981 Traveled to Paris because he was chosen as a member of the International Poster Jury and later to Cuba to attend the UNESCO Conference. Participated in the 8th April Exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art.
June 17, 1982 Referred to retirement and traveled to Nigeria after three months to attend the UNESCO Conference and participated in the 9th April Exhibition in Baghdad and the Iraqi Fine Art Exhibition in Ottawa, Canada.
1982 Participated in the 2nd Al-Wasiti Festival in Baghdad.
1983 Traveled to Finland to attend the UNESCO Conference and participated in the Iraqi Artists Exhibition at the French Cultural Center in Baghdad and the 10th April Exhibition.
1984 Won the Knight Medal in the Arts and Literature from the French Republic, was appointed the Head of the Iraqi National Committee for Fine Arts, and participated in the 11th April Exhibition.
1985 Participated in the 12th April Exhibition.
Late 1980s Showed symptoms of a disease that seemed to be exacerbated little by little, and the doctors attributed it to his addiction to smoking the pipe, which was never separated from him, and the smell of the oil-soluble substances. - He traveled to Paris with his family for treatment, and in 1990, the Iraqi Republican Guards Army invaded the State of Kuwait. In 1991, military operations began against the Iraqi army and the suffocating international embargo, so he couldn't return to Iraq.
Passed away in Paris at the age of seventy-eight, and it was said that he wanted to be cremated and his ashes buried in Baghdad because it was impossible to transfer his body to Iraq due to the military operations and the conditions of the international blockade on Iraq.

- 1914 ولد الفنان فائق حسن في العاصمة بغداد في منطقة تدعى الحيدر خانة وتوفي والده عندما كان صغيراً فأعتنى به خاله الذي كان يعمل كبستاني في حدائق البلاط الملكي.

- 1920 درس في عدة مدارس منها المدرسة الابتدائية البارودية ومدارس الحيدرية ومن ثم العوينة. - أولع فائق حسن الرسم وهو طفل صغير، وبدأ يرسم في المرحلة الأخيرة من دراسته الابتدائية وكان خاله فاضل عبد الغني يشجعه على تطوير موهبته ويفخر به بين أصدقائه ويصحبه بين فترة وأخرى معه إلى مقر عمله في البلاط الملكي. بالصدفة، لحظ الملك فيصل الأول رسومات هذا الطفل للنظر طبيعي وأبدى أعجابه بها وشجعه على الاستمرار بل ووعده أن يرسله إلى بلد أوربي لدراسة الفن. الامر الذي ظل حلما يراود الطفل في اليقظة والمنام. ورغم وفاة الملك فيصل الأول عام 1933، فقد التزم الملك غازي بالوصية بعد عامين، ومنحت الى الفتى زمالة دراسية على حساب الحكومة العراقية إلى فرنسا. عرض فائق أعماله ورسوماته على البروفسور روجيه فقبله بدون تردد.

- 1931 اشترك في المعرض الصناعي الزراعي الذي اقيم على قاعة حماية الاطفال في بغداد.

- 1935 درس الفن بمدرسة الفنون في باريس المعروفة بالبوزار École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris.

- 1938 تخرج من مدرسة الفنون في باريس بعدما أنهى الدراسة الفنية وحصل على دبلوم امتیاز والشهادة العلمية وبعد ان عاد الى العراق، عمل كمدرس للرسم في دار المعلمين الابتدائية واقام اول معرض شخصي له بعد عودته من باريس بالاشتراك مع فنانة أجنبية في معهد الفنون الجميلة في بغداد.

- 1939 - 1940 ساهم في تأسيس فرع الرسم في معهد الفنون الجميلة ودرس الرسم والنحت وبالتعاون مع الفنان المسرحي حقي الشبلي، أسسوا المسرح العراقي.

- 1941 اشترك في المعرض الاول لجمعية اصدقاء الفن في بغداد.

- 1942 تعين كمدرس في معهد الفنون الجميلة واشترك في المعرض السنوي الأول لمعهد الفنون الجميلة.

- 1943 بالتعاون مع جواد سليم، صمموا مناظر مسرحيتي (الوطن) و(الطبيب رغماً عنه) اللتين عرضا في معهد الفنون الجميلة واشترك في معرض جمعية أصدقاء الفن الثالث الذي اقيم على قاعة المعهد الثقافي البريطاني.

- 1944 تم انتخابه كعضو في الهيئة الادارية لجمعية أصدقاء الفن مع وأكرم شكري وجواد سليم وعبد الحليم السنوي وسعاد سلیم وروز ماري وناهدة الحيدري.

- 1946 اشترك في معرض جمعية أصدقاء الفن السادس الذي اقيم على قاعة متحف الازياء العراقية.

- 1948 تم انتخابه كمدير فني للغرفة الشعبية للتمثيل وصمم مناظر مسرحية (شهداء الوطنية) واشترك في المعرض العراقي الذي اقيم في بيروت على قاعة اليونيسكو.

- 1950 انضم الى جماعة الرواد واشترك في معارضها حتى عام 1962.

- 1952 انتخب كنائب رئيس جمعية أصدقاء الفن واشترك في مهرجان ابن سینا واشترك في معرض مجموعة من الرسامين في دار باهر فائق.

- 18 سبتمبر 1953 تزوج من امرأة فرنسية تدعى سوزان كوتيه.

- 1953 اشترك في معرض الرواد الثالث.

- 1955 اقام معرض فني متنقل مع اسماعيل الشيخلي في الهند ورزق الفنان وزوجته بابن يدعى هابيل وحاز على جائزة الطيران الهولندي في معرض بغداد للرسم والنحت وأصبح عضو في الهيئة الإدارية لجمعية التشكيلين العراقيين.

- 1957 اشترك في معرض بغداد للرسم والنحت الذي اقيم على قاعة نادي المنصور في بغداد ومعرض مشترك اقيم في مخازن اورزدي باك في شارع الرشيد في بغداد ومعرض اصدقاء الشرق الأوسط المتجول على قاعة اليونسكو في بیروت ومعرض جمعية الفنانين التشكيليين الثاني الذي اقيم في النادي الأولمبي في مركز شباب الاعظمية.

- تموز - اب 1958 اشترك مع جواد سلیم واسماعيل الشيخلي وخالد الجادر في معارض فنية في المغرب وتونس واشترك في معرض معرض بغداد للرسم والنحت في نادي المنصور والمعرض الخامس للرواد الذي اقيم على قاعة معهد الفنون الجميلة.

- 1961 تعين كمشرف فني في قسم الرسم والنحت في أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة واشترك في المعرض الثاني لجمعية التشكيليين على قاعة جمعية الفنانين العراقيين.

- 1962 اقام معرضه الشخصي الثاني في جمعية أصدقاء الشرق الأوسط في بغداد واشترك في المعرض السادس للرواد في معهد الفنون الجميلة.

- 1963 أصبح عضو في الهيئة الادارية لجمعية التشكيلين العراقيين.

- 1964 حاز على الجائزة الذهبية كأحسن فنان عراقي من مؤسسة كولبنكيان واقام معرضه الشخصي الثالث في المركز الثقافي الأصدقاء الشرق الأوسط الأمريكية في بغداد واشترك في المعرض السادس لجمعية الفنانين في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث.

- 1965 أقام معرضه الشخصي الرابع بالتعاون مع المركز الثقافي لأصدقاء الشرق الأوسط الأمريكية في نيويورك، الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. اشترك في المعرض السابع لجمعية الفنانين في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث واشترك في معرض الفن العراقي المعاصر في كاليري واحد في بيروت وفي معرض الرسم المتجول في بيروت.

- 1966 أقام معرضه الشخصي الخامس بالتعاون مع المركز الثقافي لأصدقاء الشرق الأوسط الأمريكية في واشنطن، الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. واشترك في المعرض الثامن لجمعية الفنانين والذي أقيم في مقر الجمعية.

- 1967 أسس جماعة الزاوية مع كاظم حيدر ومحمد غني حكمت وغازي السعودي وفالنتينوس واسماعيل فتاح وترك جماعة الرواد واشترك في معرضهم الاول في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث واقام معرضه الشخصي السادس في المركز الثقافي الأصدقاء الشرق الأوسط الأمريكية في بغداد.

- 1969 تعين كرئيس قسم الفنون التشكيلية في أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة.

- 1971 اقام معرضه الشخصي السابع في مركز الدراسات البريطانية في بغداد واشترك في معرض السنتين الثاني في الكويت.

- 1972 تم تكريمه بمناسبة مرور 25 سنة على تأسيس الحزب الحاكم من قبل الدولة مع حافظ الدروبي وأكرم شكري وعطا صبري ضمن مهرجان الواسطي.

- 1973 اشترك في المعرض الذي اقيم في جمعية الفنانين العراقيين والمعرض العراقي في المؤتمر الأول لاتحاد العالم للفنانين العرب في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث ومعرض البورتريت للفنانين العراقيين في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث ومعرض جمعية الفنانين التشكيليين الخامس عشر على قاعة جمعية الفنانين التشكيليين.

- 1974 اشترك في المعرض الفني العراقي ضمن الأسبوع الثقافي العراقي في مصر ومعرض الفنانون العراقيون في المركز الثقافي الفرنسي ومعرض الفن العراقي الاول في بغداد.

- 1975 أصبح رئيس اللجنة الوطنية للفنون التشكيلية واشترك في معرض الفن العراقي في الجزائر ومعرض نيسان الثاني في المتحف العراقي للفن الحديث.

- 1976 أنجز أعمال عديدة ومنها عملين زيتيين لمقر مكاتب البنك المركزي العراقي، اعتمدا لاحقا ضمن واجهة العملة العراقية واصبح نائب رئيس الرابطة الدولية للفنون التشكيلية ورئيس الوفد العراقي في المؤتمر الثامن للرابطة الدولية للفنون التشكيلية في بغداد واشترك في معرض ملحمة تل الزعتر في المتحف العراقي للفن الحديث ومعرض الفن العراقي المتجول في اوروبا ومعرض السنتين العربي الثاني في متحف الاودايا في الرباط في المغرب ومعرض نيسان الثالث في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث والمعرض العالمي ضد التمييز العنصري في نفس المتحف.

- 1977 تم تنصيبه كرئيس فخري لجمعية التشكيلين العراقيين واقام معرض تكريمي شامل في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث وسجل شريط تسجيلي يحكي عن اعماله وحياته وسافر الى بولونيا لغرض زيارة المؤسسات الفنية واشترك في عدة معارض منها: معرض الانتاجية الثاني على قاعة الواسطي ومعرض الفنانين الأوائل ومعرض نيسان الرابع.

- 1978 اشترك في معرض نيسان الخامس في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث.

- 1979 اشترك في معرض الفن العراقي في ايطاليا ومعرض نيسان السادس في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث.

- 1980 اشترك في معرض نيسان السابع في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث.

- 1981 سافر الى باريس لان تم اختياره كعضو هيئة تحكيم البوستر العالمي وسافر الى كوبا لحضور اجتماعات مؤتمر اليونيسكو واشترك في معرض نيسان الثامن في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث.

- 17 حزيران 1982 تم احالته على التقاعد وسافر الى نيجيريا بعد ثلاثة أشهر لحضور اجتماعات مؤتمر اليونيسكو واشترك في معرض نيسان التاسع في بغداد ومعرض الفن التشكيلي العراقي في أتاوه في كندا.

- 1982 اشترك في مهرجان الواسطي الثاني في بغداد.

- 1983 سافر الى فنلندا لحضور اجتماعات مؤتمر اليونيسكو واشترك في معرض الفنانين العراقيين في المركز الثقافي الفرنسي في بغداد ومعرض نيسان العاشر.

- 1984 فاز بوسام الفارس في الفنون والآداب من فرنسا وعين كرئيس اللجنة الوطنية العراقية للفنون التشكيلية واشترك في معرض نيسان الحادي عشر.

- 1985 اشترك في معرض نيسان الثاني عشر.

- في نهاية الثمانينات بدت عليه أعراض مرضية بدت تتفاقم شيئا فشيئا وعزاها الأطباء الى ادمانه تدخين البايب الذي كان لا يفارقه، ورائحة المواد المذيبة للزيت.

- سافر الى باريس مع عائلته للعلاج، ومن ثم غزا الحرس الجمهوري دولة الكويت ومن ثم بدأت العمليات العسكرية ضد الجيش العراقي ومن بعدها الحصار الدولي الخانق فتعذرت عودته الى العراق.

- 1992 توفى الفنان في باريس عن عمر يناهز الثمانية وسبعون عاماً وأشاع انه اراد ان يحرق جثمانه ويحوله إلى رماد ويدفن في بغداد، لاستحالة نقل جثمانه الى العراق نتيجة العمليات العسكرية وظروف الحصار الدولي على العراق.
