1946-1956 Completed his elementary, middle, and high school studies in Iraq.
1954-1957 Studied painting and graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad.
1958-1961 Worked as a drawing teacher for a short period in Baghdad.
1962-1966 Studied painting and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts - University of Baghdad.
1965 Participated in the International Book Fair in Leipzig, Germany.
1966 Participated in the Iraqi Graphic Exhibition in Berlin, Germany.
1967 Participated in the Inter-graphics exhibition in Berlin, Germany, and the Arab Art Exhibition that was organized by "Carreras Craven A" in Cairo, Beirut, Damascus, Amman, Baghdad, Kuwait, Bahrain and London, and won its first prize. He taught painting in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a short period, and he was granted a fellowship to study graphic art in Portugal by the Gulbenkian Foundation for two years as his name was nominated by the Iraqi Fine Artists Association and among the artists who were studying with him in Portugal were Rafa Nasiri and Salim Al-Dabbagh.
1968 Participated in a painting exhibition and a graphic exhibition in Lisbon, Portugal.
1969 Returned to Iraq and joined “Towards a New Vision" Group with Dia al-Azzawi, Rafa Nasiri, Ismail Fattah, Mohammed Muhraddin, and Saleh al-Jumaie. He participated in the first Biennial of Liege in Belgium and the Graphic Exhibition in both Baghdad and Beirut. The Ministry of Information employed him, and after that, he was appointed to the Arab Horizons magazine. He participated in and won wall poster competitions, and he designed book and magazine covers during this period.
1970 Participated in the Kuwait Graphic Exhibition and the Wall Poster Exhibition in Baghdad.
1971 Participated in an exhibition by four Iraqi artists from the "Towards a New Vision Group" (Rafa Nasiri, Saleh Al-Jumaie, Dia al-Azzawi and Hashem Samarachi) entitled "Our Joint Exhibition" at the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad, in which he displayed 10 of his works in oil, acrylic and plastic media, and participated in the first exhibition of the "One Dimension Group" at the Hall of the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art and Contemporary Iraqi Art exhibition in cooperation with the Iraqi Fine Artists Association in Kuwait.
1972 Participated in an exhibition of four Iraqi artists entitled "4" in the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art, in which he displayed one painting entitled "Movement" and the exhibition of contemporary Iraqi art at the hall of the Iraqi National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad.
1974 Participated in the first Arab Biennial exhibition in Baghdad.
1981 Traveled to London and settled there with his family.
1986 Participated in the Baghdad International Festival for Fine Arts at the Center of Arts in Baghdad.
1999 Participated in the Summer Festival 99 - Fifty Years of Contemporary Iraqi Graphic Art at Darat Al-Funun - Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation in Amman, Jordan.
2012 Participated in the exhibition "Arab Modern Art Artists" at the Grosvenor Gallery in London and displayed one of his works entitled "Composition of Sights" from 1966.
2017 Participated in the exhibition "Arab Print - Volume III" at Meem Gallery in Dubai.
2019 Participated in the exhibition "Art and Architecture between Lisbon and Baghdad: The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Iraq, 1957-1973" at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon.
2024 Passed away in London at the age of eighty-five.

1939 وُلد الفنان هاشم سمرجي في مدينة الموصل في العراق.
1946 – 1956 أكمل دراسته الابتدائية والمتوسطة والثانوية في العراق.
1954 – 1957 درس فن الرسم وتخرج من معهد الفنون الجميلة في بغداد.
1958 – 1961 عمل كمدرس رسم لفترة قصيرة في بغداد.

1967 اشترك في معرض انتركرافيك في برلين في المانيا، ومعرض الفن العربي الذي تم تنظيمه من قبل "كاريراس كرايفين اي" في القاهرة وبيروت ودمشق وعمّان وبغداد والكويت والبحرين ولندن وحاز على الجائزة الاولى. درّس فن الرسم في المملكة العربية السعودية لفترة قصيرة، وتم منحه زمالة لدراسة فن الكرافيك في البرتغال من قبل مؤسسة كولبنكيان لمدة عامين، وتم ترشيح اسمه من قبل جمعية الفنانين العراقيين ومن ضمن الفنانين الذين كانوا يدرسون معه في البرتغال هم رافع الناصري وسالم الدباغ.
1968 اشترك في معرض معرض للرسم ومعرض الكرافيك في لشبونة في البرتغال.
1969 عاد العراق وأنضمّ الى "جماعة نحو رؤيا جديدة" مع ضياء العزاوي ورافع الناصري واسماعيل فتاح ومحمد مهر الدين وصالح الجميعي. واشترك في البينالي الاول لمدينة لييج في بلجيكا ومعرض الكرافيك في كل من بغداد وبيروت. توظف في وزارة الاعلام وبعدها عُين في مجلة آفاق عربية. شارك في مسابقات الملصقات الجدارية وفاز فيها حيث كان يصمم أغلفة الكتب والمجلات في هذه الفترة.
1970 اشترك في معرض الكرافيك في الكويت ومعرض الملصقات الجدارية في بغداد.
1971 اشترك في معرض لأربعة فنانين عراقيين من جماعة الرؤية الجديدة (رافع الناصري وصالح الجميعي وضياء العزاوي وهاشم سمرجی) بعنوان "معرضنا المشترك" في المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث في بغداد وعرض فيه 10 اعمال له بألوان الزيت والاكرليك والبلاستيك واشترك في المعرض الاول لجماعة البعد الواحد على قاعة المتحف الوطني للفن الحديث ومعرض الفن العراقي المعاصر بالتعاون مع جمعية الفنانين العراقيين في الكويت.
